In general, I don't believe AI is the big problem yet. I work in AI. AGI based on what's publicly known and commented on by top insiders, is a fantasy of the far future. Money won't make it happen and supposedly these are data centers being built.
What's under the radar is quantum computing. Give me a quantum computer and some 1990s developers and we could create a tracking system that's full of clunky code, but can be computed so fast that it could track anything and anyone anywhere. Of course I will never do such a thing, but the point is that quantum computing will enable the dystopian state way before AI will.
